This book did more than get me excited about baseball, although it did do that. It got me excited about life in a way that I hadn't realized I have been taking it for granted. Since finishing Moneyball I keep wondering which of the other ideas that I accept as true might be patently false. In which areas of my world am I operating under misconceptions so fundamentally flawed that I will forever live in mediocrity without even knowing it could be different?
On the lighter side, Lewis's writing here is really top notch. His dry wit had me in stitches, nearly as often as his investigation had my jaw hanging open. And his easy way with words makes for a quick fun read. Although this is nonfiction, it reads like fiction. It's as if Michael Lewis just stumbled onto this really great story that no one has ever heard and decided to write it down. And from the introduction I gather that that is precisely what happened. In any case, it takes a good storyteller to make a story come alive and grab you the way Moneyball does. I highly recommend this book - who knows, you might even learn enough about baseball to make you want to watch a game or two.
