Day 3 - I'm chronicling what these vacationers here at Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina are reading.
Beach reads are classicly trashy novels, so these are in no way recommendations - just a survey of the first 10 readers and their books over three days.
1. Second Chance
by Danielle Steel. The editor of Chic Magazine meets an ad agency executive. Romance and whatnot ensues.
2. Uglies
by Scott Westerfeld. A young adult novel about a future in which a compulsory physical operation is performed upon every teen when they reach a certain age to make them attractive.
3. YOU: The Owner's Manual
by Michael F. Roizen, Mehmet Oz. The layman's guide to anatomy. Very comprehensive.
4. Skinny Dip
by Carl Hiassen. The sort of crime novel that Hiassen is known for.
5. Blow Fly
by Patricia Cornwell. Medical examiner, Kay Scarpietta, in another of a series of murder mysteries.
6. Hoping for Hope
by Lucy Clare. Chic lit for the baby boomers.
7. True Believer
by Nicholas Sparks. North Carolina powerhouse Nicholas Sparks shines again in this NYT best-selling mystery.
8. A Virtuous Woman
by Kaye Gibbons. A love story and an Oprah book club selection from a few years back.
9. The Queen's Fool
by Phillipa Gregory. Another historical fiction, this one during the reign of Mary Tudor, daughter of King Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon.
10. The War of the Worlds
by H.G. Wells. Written by Wells in 1898, this alien invasion tale hits the theaters with Tom Cruise in July. About time.
