Book Publishers

A sampling of the leading book publishing companies, a resource for readers and writers alike, with links to the publishers' online catalogs.
Bloomsbury
These guys have a well organized site promoting their titles, authors, and their magazine.
Coffee House Press
A smaller, Minnesota-based publisher with some interesting titles.
Doubleday
This is part of Random House, but worth listing separately. Off the main navigation on this page there is a link to the Nan A. Talese imprint, which has some excellent titles.
Farrar, Straus and Giroux
A well-designed website with a working search engine and a great selection of books.
Harper Collins
They also have a link from their home page to their reading groups. Good idea!
Knopf
I like this site. I like the right-hand navigation with things like "More by this Author." I also like the fact that they frequently post excerpts from their books.
MacAdam / Cage
MacAdam/Cage Publishing was founded as an independent trade publisher in 1998 with the aim of publishing books of quality fiction and non-fiction and committed to bringing new and talented voices to the literary marketplace.
Penguin Putnam
Check out the Reading Guides on the right. Neat idea!
Perseus Books Group
An eclectic selection of nonfiction from their Basic Books, Da Capo Press, PublicAffairs, Running Press, Basic Civitas, Counterpoint, and Westview Press imprints. I tend toward their memoir/biography and social issues titles.
Picador
An excellent body of work. Frequently republishes work in paperback.
Poolbeg
Poolbeg founded in 1976 and has become one of Ireland's leading book publishers. They publish mass-market fiction, children's books, non-fiction and literary fiction.
Princeton Architectural Press
Don't be fooled! This is not just architecture, but a range of non-fiction titles which hover around and near design, but also border the sociological realm, as well.
Random House
A giant. Everything imaginable here on many many imprints.
Scholastic
They publish some great educational and kids books, in addition to the Harry Potter books. Need I say more?
St. Martin's Press
Minotaur is mystery; Picador is general fiction; Tor, Forge, and Orb are science fiction and fantasy. They also publish the Let's Go travel series, and more...
Simon & Schuster
Good site. Well categorized. They also have discussion boards and a newsletter to subscribe to, if it pleases you.
Time Warner Bookmark
Nice site. Titles are organized well into categories and feature sites.
