Colm Toibín Biography:
Irish novelist, Colm Tóibín was born in 1955 in Enniscorthy, Ireland. After graduating college in 1975, he left Ireland for Spain, where he lived for 3 years before returning to Ireland.
Toibin worked in Journalism during the 1980's. In 1990 he published his first novel, The South, inspired in part by his years in Barcelona. Living abroad and homosexual identity issues were themes that Toibín would explore in later novels, most notably The Master (2004), which was shortlisted for the 2004 Booker Prize and won the American Library Association's Stonewall Book Award for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered books.
