British author, Muriel Spark was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1918. During World War II, Spark worked in intelligence and began writing thereafter. The first book she published in 1952 was a book of poetry. Spark published The Comforters, her first novel, in 1957, and has published 23 novels since. Her most recent is The Finishing School, published in 2004.
Muriel Spark is the recipient of the David Cohen British Literature Prize for Lifetime Achievement. She lives in both New York City and Rome.
