Jonathan Lethem is a native of Brooklyn, NY where he currently lives after having given the West Coast a shot for a decade or so.
In his first novel, Gun, with Occasional Music (1994), he combined two of his favorite genres: science fiction and the detective story. He continued in the science fiction vein with subsequent books, but made a transition into literary fiction with surrealistic elements in both his 2003 novel, The Fortress of Solitude, and his 2004 book of stories, Men and Cartoons.
His 1999 novel, Motherless Brooklyn won The National Book Critics Circle Award.
