Isabel Allende

Chilean Author, Isabelle Allende was born on August 2, 1942 in Peru. In the 1960s and 1970s, Allende worked as a Journalist for a number of publications in both Chile and Venezuela.

A coup in Chile in 1973 sent Allende into exile in Venezuala and spurred her towards writing literature.

Her first novel, "The HOuse of the Spirits," was published in 1982. Since that time, she's written many novels and collections of short stories for which she's won numerous awards around the world.
