Karen Russell Background and Writing:

Karen Russell, a graduate of Columbia University's MFA program, is known for short stories that have been featured in numerous publications and collections. Her debut short story collection, St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves was published in September 2006 to great acclaim.

In 2009, Russell was named a "5 under 35" writer by the National Book Foundation and one of the New Yorker's "20 under 40" writers to watch in 2010.

Swamplandia! (2011), Russell's debut novel about a family who runs an aging theme park in South Florida, grew out of one of the stories in St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves.
