Antagonist

Definition: The antagonist is the main opponent of the main character in a work of literature. The main character is called the protagonist.
Examples:
In Ken Kesey's novel, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," Chief Bromden in the narrator, McMurphy is the protagonist, and Nurse Ratched is the antagonist.
