John Irving Biography:
John Irving was born in Exeter, New Hampshire on March 2, 1942. He attended Exeter, where he excelled as a wrestler (wrestling, incidentally, features prominently in The World According to Garp, A Prayer for Own Meany, and Until I Find You).
Irving graduated from the University of New Hampshire and studied at the Iowa Writer's Workshop under Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. He published his first novel, Setting Free the Bears, at the age of 26, but was launched to fame with his fourth novel, The World According to Garp, in 1978.
Irving's subsequent novels include The Cider House Rules, and A Prayer For Owen Meany, two more of his most highly regarded works. In 2005, he published Until I Find You.
