Tobias Wolff, widely known as a prolific short-story writer and the author of the memoir This Boy's Life, won The Story Prize for his collection, Our Story Begins.
At a ceremony on Wednesday night that also included finalists Jhumpa Lahiri for Unaccustomed Earth and Joe Meno for Demons in the Spring, Wolff read from his well-known story, "Bullet in the Brain," about a book critic at a bank robbery.
You can hear T.C. Boyle reading Tobias Wolff's "Bullet in the Brain" and speaking about Tobias Wolff on The New Yorker's fiction podcast.
