10 Days of Giftmas:
Holiday Gift Books 2008

Ah, the leaves are dropping and with them temperatures, Halloween has come and gone and Thanksgiving approaches. And with it, Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving - the official start of the Holiday shopping season. Time to shop!
And so I bring you 10 Days of Giftmas - 2008 Holiday Gift Books, 10 books published in 2008 to add to your gift-giving list. No book is for everyone, so I've tried to make this list as diverse and gifty as possible. Enjoy!
10 Days of Giftmas
Day One: American Earth: Environmental Writing Since Thoreau
Two centuries of American environmental writing, from nature writing to ecologist memoirs to essays on overpopulation. It's all in American Earth, this squat tome about where writers meet the land. The usual suspects are well-represented - from Thoreau to John Muir to Edward Abbey on up through David Quammen and Al Gore, along with a lot of writers I've never heard of - George Perkins Marsh, who was instrumental in creating the American park system, for one.
Too much in here to list everything. Bill McKibben, who edited American Earth, chose offerings from about a hundred writers in all and 80 pages of photos and illustrations. Read more about this treasure at www.americanearth.org, and add it to your Giftmas list.
