Spread the Word: Books to Talk About

Friday October 17, 2008

In an effort to glean a list of books capable of sparking broad conversations from the thousands published each year, the World Book Day team asked publishers large and small to submit books they thought were worth talking about, books they deemed worthy of reaching a larger audience. The resulting list is Spread the Word: Books to Talk About, a list of 50 fiction and nonfiction titles from which by public vote will be whittled a short list of 10 titles to be announced on January 30, 2009 and then a final £5000 winner which will be announced on World Book Day, March 5, 2009.

Sure, you say, another book list. But actually, there are some great titles - some that I haven't seen or heard of yet, that I believe are worth exploring. Go to Spread the Word to check it out. Then register in order to comment on any or all of the booksand vote for your favorites.

Where’s the USA site? Insert “nation of idiots” comment here.

Maybe I’ll make my site the official WBD site.

Good point, Matt. It does seem more of a UK Book Day initiative. Someone needs to undertake the US branch. Until that time, it can be Condalmo.
