Buy Books One Page at a Time

Friday November 4, 2005

Amazon.com is planning to let it's customers buy books one page at a time According to NPR's Renée Montagne, "For a few cents per page you'll be able to view any part of a book online. It's like iTunes for Books! Amazon's scheme is a way to get around the kind of lawsuits that Google is facing from irate authors charging copyright infringement when entire books are put online. Now Google is reportedly looking into selling pages too."

I'm not sure why author's are up in arms about Google Print. This morning's search on Henry Miller's Tropic of Capricorn yielded only the copyright page, the title page, and one page of text - just enough to whet the reader's appetite which can then be sated by purchasing the book via the links provided.

A ridiculous idea! Most people prefer to buy booksin their entirty. It may have some credibility for researchers, but I am not with this one at all.
