NBA Winner: The News from Paraguay

Friday November 19, 2004
The News from Paraguay by Lily TuckLily Tuck has won the National Book Awards for her novel, The News from Paraguay, an historical epic that tells the story of two lovers during a war in 19th century Paraguay.

There was some amount of backlash over the fact that all the authors shortlisted for the NBA fiction award were little-known women authors living in New York City. Lily Tuck, however, was nominated for a PEN/Faulkner award in 2000 and is the author of three previous novels.
