Louis Menand decimates Lynne Truss's Eats, Shoots & Leaves

Monday July 5, 2004
New Yorker book critic and essayist, Louis Menand, shot holes in Eats, Shoots & Leaves, Lynne Truss's recent popular punctuation treatise, in this article in last week's New Yorker.

"Why would a person who is not just vague about the rules but disinclined to follow them bother to produce a guide to punctuation?" asks Menand.

Menand accuses Truss of vagueness, inconsistency, and inaccuracy in an article that Truss's "sticklers" will find most gratifying and redemptive.
