Spalding Gray Remembered on Fresh Air
Monday March 22, 2004
Spalding Gray, a writer and actor best known for his autobiographical monologues, had a history of depression and attempted suicide. When he went missing earlier this year, fans and loved ones feared the worst, and the worst was confirmed when his body was found earlier this month in New York's East River.Armed with a microphone, a glass of water, and his sharp New England wit, Gray regularly sat before audiences and bared his life experiences and his neuroses in a self-depracating manner that his fans found utterly hilarious.
Listen to NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross today and tomorrow for a two-part special in which Terry revisits past Spalding Gray interviews and speaks with Gray's widow, Kathie Russo, and his friend, Robby Stein.
