Out of Sheer Rage by Geoff Dyer

Friday March 5, 2004
Out of Sheer RageGeoff Dyer, the author of Out of Sheer Rage is argumentatively one of the whiniest people on the planet. He begins his 1997 memoir by describing the endless vacillation he experienced in setting out to write a sober, academic study of D.H. Lawrence, the writer who had inspired Dyer to write.

The study of D.H. Lawrence is never written, but Dyer is oddly compelling in his recounting of attempting to write that study. The author of Yoga for People Who Can't Be Bothered to Do It has a fascinating talent for elucidating life's minutiae in a way that makes the ordinary seem epic.
