George Plimpton dies at 76

Monday September 29, 2003
George Plimpton, writer, publisher, actor, patron, and much more, died on Friday. Plimpton was an American literary hero who, among many other achievements, was a forerunner in "participatory journalism," which years later became known as "gonzo journalism." His book, "Paper Lion," is a hilariously insightful account of the season Plimpton joined the Detroit Lions as a 36 year old rookie quarterback.
